I’m always interested by what people do with Blender and especially in the animation category. So, every year, I’ll go and have a look at the submissions for the Susanne Award. Here is my top 3 for this year.
The Ballad of the Pale Blue Dot
Best of all in terms of quality for the story, animation and style.
The Untranslatable Forest
Definitely more in the experimental category from a storyline perspective with bits of visual poetry making an interesting use of the “realistic” rendering, of which I’m rarely a fan of. Good overall quality.
Lumber Slumber
Because I wanted to include a number 3, this one made the cut. It felt more like a student film. But the effort on texturing, atmosphere and style were worth the detour.
Other films are worth their watch. This is just a personal preference. It’s good to see the quality that comes from Blender these days. On that topic, if you haven’t seen it yet, go watch Flow. It’s a wonderful feature film, entirely made in Blender. No wonder it received so many awards.
